Falling Away From Me
16"x20" Oil on Canvas
Otero 2003

One of the most abstract pieces I've ever done. This piece was the acute focus of expression of the separation of a loved one. From Passion (symbolized by the red and crimson hand) sinking down to despair(symbolized by the cool blue tones of cerulean and cobalt). I put the image of the couple in the locket on the reflection rather than in the locket to show the manner of "reflecting back".
This was a very passionate and heartfelt piece for me and less strategic that many others. The Color transitions took the longest, because I desired a 'smooth' transition.

Guidence of the Misunderstood
18"x24" Oil on Panel
Otero 2003

Out of the four pieces, this one I think is the most telling and most strategic expression of what I felt during the time in transition. It definitely took the most planning than the other ones. I wanted a few things to stand out. One was elevated mountain in the background, the sledge hammer, two roses, the two men on the checkerboard tile, the humanoid cerberus, and the woman.

Wall of Solitude
18"x 24" Oil on Panel
Otero 2003

This Piece began as I was leaving a time in my life that left me much grief and frustrated. This is where I continued to be greatly influenced by the movement of the surrealists. There was a lot of symbology to utilize.

Lead Us From Bondage
16"x20" Oil on Canvas
Otero 2002

Originally this piece began as a class assignment. Later I saw that it needed a few changes and added a few things. I dont know exactly what moved me to use the pyramid or the "all seeing eye", but it definitely gave interest to the background. I felt that it needed a figure like moses approaching the foreground. I will say this, it definitely does make for an interesting topic

Segregated While United
15"x20" Acrylic on Board
Otero 2002

This piece was one I had done while in transtion. At the time I was getting a lot of friction from fellow roommates and my girlfriend. That is what is symbolized by the fire that divided (in bright cadmium), and the beginning flame (in a cool cerulean).

Paintings

Angel of Sanctity
16"x20" Oil on Canvas
Otero 2002

This was an anniversary gift that Id painted for an old girlfriend of mine. The influence for this one was St. Matthew and the angel by Carravaggio. My point was to have the piece give a sense of serenity
